“England will still be England, an everlasting animal stretching into the future and the past, and, like all living things, having the power to change out of recognition and yet remain the same.” ― George Orwell

Was he right?

The five women pictured are from a Miss England photo shoot on 19 April 2007, held to represent a multicultural England and to coincide with celebrations of Saint George’s Day that year. From left to right: Rachel Williams (Miss African Pride), Georgia Horsley (former Miss York 2005; Miss Photographic, a shared subsidiary title at the event), Eleanor Glynn (Miss England 2006), Mary Hawkins (Miss Photographic, also awarded at the same event), and Mandeep Sidhu (Miss Maya).

The picture at the end shows very “white” students demonstrating their patriotic support for the England men’s football team in the 2006 World Cup.
